There are countless of challenges for organizations to address in what is being called the “leadership-succession crisis”. Decision-makers at all levels are under significant pressure to develop a persistent pipeline of young professionals to take over for the “5/50” crisis. This is where the potential is most significant for you, but only if you choose to get in the game and do whatever it takes right now.

Over the NEXT five years companies are set to lose upwards of 50 percent of their top tier personnel due to the convergence of demographics, retirement projections, and marketplace realities. Hopefully you just recognized the tremendous amount of opportunity that awaits you in the next 5-10 years. I am a firm believer that struggle leads to change but it depends on the individual as to whether or not that change will be positive or negative. Mid- and upper-level positions are going to open up but will only be filled by the BEST of the NEXT. Figure out how to leverage current success into future opportunity today. You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.

Almost one-third of all Americans will approach retirement age within the next 10 years and companies are frightened by the lack of talent in emerging leaders to fill these roles because it often requires 10 years of actual development. The opportunity is out there but it is up to you to seek it out and fill it.
