scoreboardAs I begin to get real intentional about various projects and take my business to the next level I will end each week with a recap of events and the most important lessons learned. During today’s Change Your Life Radio show I realized the power of intention and the importance of systems. Accountability is a large part of this concept and I would recommend tracking everything you do as it pertains to your personal growth and development. Take a look at my scoreboard and get real intentional about yours.

The Cost of Sale

The NEXTPERT system is really an idea Coach Micheal Burt came up with on how young people need to realize the value in being a great assistant and serving others within the organization. He coined the term “nexpert” and identifies many expectations associated with an assistant. His concept is really the inspiration behind NEXTPERT and becoming a next generation leader who lives each day with a constancy of purpose and passion towards a dominant aspiration. As a young professional I am living the “nexpert” concept everyday as I do anything possible to make the lives of my two mentors (Coach Burt and Dr. Colby Jubenville) easier.

Part of being a NEXTPERT is anticipating the needs of your employer and learning to be the best in the world at serving them. I understand I am fortunate to be in a position to have accelerated learning experiences as a result of being surrounded by the two of them and in order to maintain these opportunities I do anything asked.

One of those opportunities this week was a trip to Jackson, Miss., where Coach Burt was invited to speak to the Mississippi Coaches Association Annual Conference where over 1,000 coaches are invited. The speaking lineup consisted of University of Alabama championship coach Nick Saban and University of Mississippi’s Houston Nutt along with Coach Burt.

But what I enjoyed and took away the most from the event was the 16 combined hours during the roadtrip. For the first roadtrip in my life the radio stayed off and the four of us (Coach Burt (www.coachburt.com), Ernie Gray (www.ErnieGray.com), Patrick Nowlin, and I) talked about several topics but the majority of it centered on business. These 16 hours of discussion may have been more beneficial than all of my undergraduate classes combined.

What's Your "Cost of Sale"

In summary, the “Cost of Sale” consisted of a lot of driving, little sleep, and the invaluable growth of intellectual property. We arrived back in Murfreesboro late Friday night and the “Cost of Sale” continued the next morning at 5 a.m. because I am a member of the Brentwood Early Risers Toastmaster’s club on Saturday mornings and part of my systems thinking is never turning down an engagement or a chance to get better.

What are you willing to do to make your dreams come true? It’s time to get real intentional about your future and figure out what your cost of sale is. I may not have realized it then, but I started the cost of sale when I decided to move out of state to chase a dream with no certainties. Nearly two years ago I took a risk and invested in myself. It took countless sleepless nights on couches worrying about the next step, but not once did I waver in my confidence to live the life I set out for. I encourage anyone to have the confidence in themselves and realize strengths you didn’t know existed because the journey of life will undoubtedly be difficult but it’s all the more rewarding when you have breakthroughs.

I used to lay awake and worry about the direction of my future and always told myself that once I started to experience these successes I sought after that I would do anything to stay there. It’s a great feeling when you know you’re on the right path and only you can mess it up. It may feel like pressure for some, but I look at it as another challenge and won’t let anything stand in the way.
